It happened at about 12.40am at the Watling Street petrol station.

A man entered the shop, concealing his appearance, and threatened a shop assistant with a gun, believed to be a black handgun. He took the male shop assistant to the alcohol section and forced him to pull up the shutter so he could take some bottles.

As the offender turned to leave with the bottles, a second shop assistant tried to stop him but was also threatened with a gun. The offender then left the shop towards the Park Street roundabout.Four bottles of wine were stolen.Detective Sergeant Jason Finnegan, investigating, said: “This was a very unpleasant experience for the shop assistants, although fortunately neither of them were injured.

“We take incidents of this kind very seriously, and will work tirelessly to bring the offenders to justice. “I am appealing for anyone who can identify the man in the stills to come forward, or if they have any information on the offence.”
